I see the college planning and admissions process through the prism of empowered self-development. The entire process, with guided support, is a rich opportunity for teens to learn more about who they are, who they wish to become, and how they might like to contribute to the world around them. Through a student-centered and relational approach, I provide self-reflection practices, tailored action-steps, guidance, encouragement, and deadline management of the entire process. I am part coach, counselor, cheerleader, project manager, and developmental editor. I am skilled at helping students make valuable connections between all of their experiences, coursework, and personal values and perspectives. Together students and I build a treasure trove of self-knowledge and direction that culminates in memorable personal essays and a list of colleges that match their goals and values. Ultimately, admission officers are looking for students who not only worked hard, but who can also demonstrate their character: their ability to self-reflect, consider others, and make meaning of their experiences with an authentic voice. Through a collaborative process, clients and I explore, plan, reflect, and deepen their path to college acceptances and beyond.
